Seeking Plays/Directors for 2010-2011 Season
Is there a play that you have wanted to bring to life
on stage? Studio Players is offering you the chance. We are beginning the
process of selecting plays and directors for our 58th season by soliciting
titles from potential directors.
Studio Players strives to produce a season with wide audience appeal.
We try to produce a balanced season that would include a comedy, drama,
mystery/thriller, classic, and one lesser known play per season. Comedies,
musicals and classic dramas are our most popular productions. Although not
included in our regular 5 show season, we typically produce a musical in the
summer.
The normal run of a show is 10 performances - 4 the 1st week and three each
for the next two weeks. Musicals are often scheduled for 4 weekends
(13 performances).
We ask that you please keep in mind the intimate space at the Carriage
House when you are considering plays. The house is small (it seats 119)
with a proscenium stage, limited wing space, and a 10-foot ceiling. We have
accommodated casts as large as 16 people, but 10 or fewer probably works
best. Multiple-set plays present an additional challenge, but we have mounted
successfully such productions in the past.
We request that you provide us with up to 3 recommendations of plays that
you are interested in directing. Be sure to include the title, author,
publisher, character plot (number and gender of characters) and a brief
synopsis of each play. Also, if you have a copy of the play that we can
borrow for perusal, that would be helpful, but is not required.
You do not have to provide a complete production proposal at this time.
You may also include a current resume if you wish.
Please send your recommendations (and any questions) to Scott Turner at
scotthalvorsenturner@gmail.com or scott.turner@scott.kyschools.us
, or by mail at 110 Kelly Avenue, Georgetown, Kentucky 40324.
All submissions must be received by Wednesday, November 11, 2009.
